Deluxe Grip 2nd Model Navy by Horster – D618

Collectors are usually aware of how tough it is to get a get a decent 2nd Model Navy dagger, in which everything flows. Dented scabbards, cracked grips, and plating issues, are just some of the challenges that plaque these edged weapons. Well, this is one that I think you may just like.

What can I say about the hilt on this beautiful Navy, other than it is drop dead gorgeous! Both the crossguard and pommel are of early heavy brass variety, and have evenly toned with age. The blade release button is intact on the reverse, and works just fine. But the actual grip to this 2nd model navy dirk, is the component which makes this edged weapon so special. It is a stunning example comprised of actual deluxe white bone, in the finest condition! Beautiful wavy growth lines alternating in light and dark, give the same  appearance of what you see in conch shells from the ocean. Also present and laterally down both sides, are the fine age lines produced as this grip dried. This entire grip is perfect, and shines like a brilliant white pearl. Finishing off the touches of this stunning handle, is a double twisted braid of decorative copper wire shown tight to the grip. A totally outrageous hilt assembly, on this beautiful 2nd Model Navy.

Ask any seasoned collector what is the most difficult component to locate when it comes to condition, on any Navy dagger? And most likely they will say the scabbard to these edged weapons. These brass sheaths were so prone to hits, bends, and dents, it isn’t even funny. I’m telling you, the one to this dagger is a beauty! It is perfectly straight, void of any of the usually imperfections that generally plague them, being untouched and uncleaned. Both of the scabbard bands are firmly in place, holding the no nonsense thick scabbard rings. A fantastic scabbard in every sense of the word.

I know what you were hoping for and we were too, is a great blade to go with this beautiful dagger and that it is!  Full length with excellent plating throughout and wonderful dark etch down both sides, this blade is as nice as they come. The killer burnished etch is the example featuring a fouled anchor with flowing sea life plants, shown on both sides. The surface has a couple speck of age primarily around the ricasso area, the norm for most Navy daggers. This is the area that the wood runners of the scabbard will rest on the blade. The finishing touch, is the leather blade washer up tight against the lower crossguard butt plate. Shown etched on the obverse is the firm responsible for this stunning dirk, E.F. Horster. A very decent blade on this 2nd Model Navy, to go with everything else.

A fantastic opportunity on a deluxe grip, 3rd Reich navy dirk. SOLD
