Attributed WWII Fighting / Utility Bolo Knife by Plum – D1192
Offering a U.S. World War II model 1917 bolo knife complete with scabbard. These beefy implements were designed to be used as a sidearm utility weapon, as well as an all-around machete type edged weapon. This set includes an edition of Newsweek magazine dated October 12, 1942. On the cover is shown a U.S soldier in training at Camp Callan posed with his bolo knife in his mouth. On page 4 of the magazine, it describes the soldier as being Pvt. Edmund van Hoe. With the magazine and the knife is a notarized piece of paper which reads:
15 Nov. 1956
I am donating my Uncles knife to VFW Post 93 Youngstown Ohio for there (sp.) WW 2 knife and bayonet display. My Uncle Edmond Van Hoe was issued this knife at Camp Callanite (sp.) and carried it during the war. Included is a Newsweek magazine showing him on the cover during training. I want to share these items with his fellow Vets.
Signed Robert Van Hoe, Youngstown, Ohio. State of Ohio seal.
Truly a super neat display with the knife, Newsweek magazine, and statement from the veteran’s nephew. $895.00
