Army Officer’s Dagger by Eickhorn – D929

This listing is for a Heer officer’s dagger in good condition. The beautiful light orange pumpkin grip remains in excellent shape, void of any chips, cracks or missing material. All three hilt hardware components have taken on gorgeous dark matching patina, as nothing has been cleaned nor polished on this edged weapon since being returned as a souvenir from WWII. Lightly scratched on the reverse of the crossguard is a capital initial H.

The scabbard to this dagger remains fairly straight, exhibiting just a few minor bumps which are confined to the sides of the shell. Like the hilt fittings, this scabbard is dark with a heavy patina that matches the crossguard and pommel to a tee. The scabbard bands are firmly in place and hold the hanger rings properly. As a finger print component of this manufacture, the throat is a thicker component used by this firm. Lastly, the majority of these late scabbards exhibit one internal runner which can be hear loose inside of the shell. No big deal, as it doesn’t inhibit the blade from properly being inserted. As a matter of fact, collectors will find the majority of these 2nd pattern Eickhorn scabbard of this vintage to exhibit this exact same feature.

We close with the blade. It remains full length, straight, void of any sharpening, tipping or cutting edge chips. As shown it does have some staining and darkening on the surface of both sides. On blade like this, honestly it’s best to just leave them as is. Attempting to polish or clean these challenges will do more harm than good. The dagger is untouched in every way. It’s best just to leave it like that. On the reverse is an excellent dark burnished squirrel logo. The trademark of excellence of the famous Carl Eickhorn edged weapon firm.     SOLD
