Army Officer’s Dagger by Eickhorn – D793

The army in this offering is a Heer officer’s dolch, which was most likely produced within a year of the initial production of these edged weapons during 1935. It exemplifies using up the early components, while incorporating some newly designed fittings after the initial production. The grip which has turned a pleasant squash color throughout, remains in good shape. Void of any splits, cracks, or missing material, the surface shows just a few minor scuff imperfections. All of the hardware has turned jet black on this hilt, as nothing has been cleaned what so ever on this edged weapon for over 3/4 of a century.

Accompanied with this dagger is it’s original scabbard. As you can see it is absolutely as black as the fittings on the hilt of this edged weapon. In lieu of that, the shell remains straight, and void of any hits, bends, or creases. The scabbard bands are secure to the shell, and are the early variety with a beveled contour shape. They are in place, and hold the hanger rings properly as shown. One reverse set screw secures the throat in place.

The blade to this dagger though not perfect, certainly rates in average condition. Avowed it does have some surface age and a very slight list near the tip. It is so slight that it can’t be seen in the photos. In light of that the blade remains full length, void of any sharpening, tipping, or cutting edge chips. A super dark burnished Eickhorn squirrel is as black as everything else on this untouched 3rd Reich Heer officer’s dagger.
