Army Officer’s Dagger by Alcoso – D633
Collectors encounter 3rd Reich daggers in all different degrees of preservation: Cleaned daggers with minty blades. Crusty daggers which were used to dig potatoes and salty uncleaned daggers with minty blades. There is certainly something to be said for all 3, but my personal preference is the last. Here’s an excellent example in this offering.
The grip to this Alcoso army has turned a beautiful autumn squash color. It remains in excellent condition, void of a any cracks, splits, or missing Torlon material. A couple specks of surface wear is pretty much it, and truthfully barely worth mentioning. The typical light weight fittings on this hilt have turned absolutely black as you can see. As nothing has been touched on this edged weapon since it was returned home as a wartime souvenir. As many collectors can tell at first glance, the smaller neck area of the pommel is an Alcoso trait on their war time army officer’s daggers. And quite noticeable as well on this hilt. An attractive hilt and grip assembly on this mid period Alcoso Heer dagger.
Like the hilt fittings, the scabbard to this edged weapon is just black as all get out ! It’s straight, void of any bends, bumps, dents, or creases. Both scabbard bands are firm to the shell, and hold the hanger rings properly. 2 factory flat head screws secure the throat in place. A scabbard which truly epitomizes the term untouched, in every sense of the word.
Finally the blade. About as mint as they come……. with a ton of crossgrain! What a truly outstanding stunning blade to complete this beautiful army dagger. On the reverse is the 3rd style scales trademark which the Alcoso edged weapon firm used from 1938-40.
A wonderful untouched army dagger which comes with very high marks. SOLD
