Aluminum Hilt Police Bayonet by Krebs – D767

You don’t see this maker associated with all that many edged weapons produced during the 3rd Reich, and certainly rarely on a police bayonet. This is a short example which collectors usually attributed to the owner being an officer. Additionally adding to the desirability is the fact that this bayonet is equip with a crossguard and hilt made out of aluminum. In lieu of that fact alone, it probably was a special private purchase order. The pommel and crossguard display excellent hand enhancing detail to the features of both. In keeping with the light weight concept, the grip plates are actually made out of artificial stag. They are nicely riveted tight to the spine on this edged weapon, void of any looseness or movement. In the center of the obverse plate is an excellent aluminum Nazi police eagle emblem. It is properly centered and firmly in place in to the grip half. Accompanying this bayonet is a matching steel scabbard. While the shell of it does have the period factory black enamel, it does shown some wear, though not all that terrible. Wrapped around the top section of the scabbard and held by the lug, is a unmarked dark brown frog. The leather is supple, all the stitching in place, and it has fine period dye to it’s surface. Lastly is the blade. It is full length, void of any tipping or sharpening. Granted, in light of the plated surface shows spotting and age, it still rates fair over all. The reverse of the riccasso is stamped with the small little trademark of the Julius Krebs edged weapon firm.  A rather uncommon variation of a 3rd Reich police officer’s short bayonet.  SOLD
