M40 Luftwaffe Helmet – HKP 64 – H163
As stated in the title, this listing is for an M40 Luft helmet manufactured by HKP / SE 64, lot number #12230. The exterior projects a decent dark green textured surface in good condition, with moderate wear overall. Nicely centered on the left side is a 2nd pattern Luft eagle in flight. The transfer remains strong at 90%. On the inside the 8 finger leather liner in pliable and soft condition. There are a couple tears to the fingers being held by an atypical improvised draw string. While the steel band liner is uniform and not bent out of shape, the rivets are sans the retaining washers, indicating that the liner has been out of this helmet at one time. Whether this occurred during the period or post war is unknown. 2 of the rivet heads are the same texture as the helmet, with one being replaced. The chinstrap appears post war as well. Not a perfect helmet by any means. But if you do not want to pay upwards toward a grand for one, this one displays very nice for half the price. SOLD
