Early Hitler Youth Knife by Seilheimer – D1266

Where these HJ’s may have been inexpensive years ago, the decent motto examples were not all that easy to find. Literally used hard and put away wet, stuck in trees and into the ground, the majority of them took a beating. 

The grip to this Paul Seilheimer produced HJ is very nice. All tight throughout, the plating to the hilt has held up decently. As for the grip plates, they have beautiful checking, void of any damage, and have been neatly trimmed / fitted to the spine of this knife. An excellent HJ diamond completes the assembly.

The scabbard shell is the early type with one fabric covered runner. This shell remains straight, void of any splits, creases, or bends. The period black enamel paint has held up good, with the obverse rating 75%, while the reverse is a strong 98%. As pictured, the leather hanger while showing some age and wear, is still very much intact. The snap is present and functions fine. 

As for the blade, it is pretty damn nice. Void of any sharpening or tipping, with the surface exhibiting some light staining toward the hilt. A nice dark burnished Blut und Here motto as shown here is what these kids’ knives are all about. Lastly, the blade washer is gone to time.
