Mid Period M33 Dagger With a Flare & Rare Trademark by Eickhorn – D1255
You say that you’ve been looking for an SS dagger which has something special about it? Here you go!
A fantastic grip begins the description of this very desirable SS dagger which was manufactured by the premier edged weapon firm during the infamous era, Carl Eickhorn. The handle remains in excellent condition, exhibiting very minor surface imperfections to speak of. The high neck eagle is of aluminum construction, whereas the SS runes button made from nickel. Both emblems are extremely nice and very typical as far as metallurgy for this period in time. The crossguards are of nickel silver, which is a wonderful bonus. That is considering the timeframe when this metal was extremely rare, and edged weapon firms no longer had access to these precious metals for dagger production. And finally, on this hilt you by now have already noticed the 43cm portapee laced around it. While most of us associate this accoutrement being worn with the M36 SS chain dagger, occasionally we will see these knots on M33’s. Though you may think that this portapee was added post war by perhaps a collector, take a look at what secures the crossguard reverse loop section of the cord. Look a bit familiar? It’s the piping off of an SS collar tab! I’ve seen this one other time, exactly the same with another untouched M33 SS dagger. What a neat addition to this beautiful edged weapon!
The scabbard to this mid-period Eickhorn SS dagger is in excellent shape. The shell is straight, void of any hits, dings, bends or splits. The factory black enamel has endured the test of time, and remains strong at 98%, showing some crazing mainly confined to the reverse side. To exactly match the hilt components to a tee, the upper and lower fittings on this scabbard are once again solid nickel, same as the crossguards. Through the upper fitting loop is the SS hanger that has been on this scabbard forever and the fitting is missing one screw however still firmly in holding.
Finally, the blade, and it’s a beauty! Loaded with crossgrain from hilt to tip on both the obverse and reverse, it just doesn’t get any better. But it does, just take a look at that gorgeous dark burnish Meine Ehre Heist Treue motto! On the reverse ricasso is the burnished rare unique squirrel logo, as well as the Eickhorn RZM contract number / date, 941/39 SS.
This is a sweet SS dagger, in every sense of the word! SOLD
