Early SS M33 by Klaas – D1241

It’s tough finding a quality SS dagger in today’s market. As most collectors have noticed, even the nice RZM examples are snapped up fairly quickly. Here is an overall solid Klaas in this offering that wont break the bank. My personal favorite maker when it comes to early M33’s.

The grip to this Klaas SS is in fine condition. Though it shows some pressure marks here and there, they are not all that horrible. The dark black wood is very appealing and there is a small chip at the top as we typically see with SS daggers to the corners of the grip. I assume it has been professionally repaired as I have not taken the dagger apart nor would I as its all held tightly in place. The nickel silver eagle remains with excellent detail, and has been placed flush to the wood. Above it at the top of the obverse, a fine SS runes button is in the same condition. Both upper and lower crossguards are nice and smooth, and have taken on an untouched patina.

Accompanying the dagger is a decent scabbard. It remains straight, void of any hits, splits, dings (besides the bottom fitting ball), or bends. The overall look matches the condition of the rest of the dagger with some of the original bluing still present and some oxidation. Both upper and lower nickel fittings show average wear consistent with being carried during the period. 4 dome head screws hold it all together tightly.

We conclude with the blade to this Klaas M33. It is full length, drawn to a needle point tip, void of any chipping, sharpening, buffing, or polishing. There is a little bit of surface oxidation throughout and luckily most is on the reverse. But I’m telling you, this blade is truly so far above the average for a lot of the early SS daggers being offered. Th crossgrain graces both sides of this blade as it luckily has not been polished out. The moto and kissing cranes logo on the reverse are crisp and just as you want to see with this maker.

This is an honest early M33 SS dagger, all the way around.   $3875.00
