Veteran Acquired SS Officer’s Tunic & More – G269

While just a fraction of SS tunics survived after the war with their original insignia intact, this is an extremely rare one which did. Acquired in 2002 by renown militaria collector Bill Rannow, the unrestored tunic and riding britches offered in this listing are exactly as they were found in a large cache of souvenirs sent home by a U.S. veteran who was stationed not only in German, but also in Japan after the war.

The material to this private purchase M36 tunic is in excellent condition, devoid of any rips, tears, repairs, or major soiling. There are a few light stains on the front that you can see in the photos, but that’s about it. The sew-in shoulder boards are blue piped with 2 pips, the rank designation for an SS Hauptsturmfuhrer serving in a medical detachment. A small 4 place ribbon bar over the left tunic pocket shows awards for War Merit, Wehrmacht long service, Austria Annex, and Social Welfare. Certainly, an indication that this officer most likely had been in a Heer unit before the war started, then transferring into the SS. Over the right-side pocket the tunic material is absolutely perfect, as there has never been any insignia sewn in that location. A beautiful set of officer’s tabs perfectly matched have been expertly sewn in place. Though it may not be apparent in the photos, the insignia have taken a concave form, where they have been attached to the collar since day one. Hence the term by collectors stating that the insignia has “sunk into the material”. The runic tab bullion is in fantastic condition, sewn over the proper unterlagen, while being void of any loose threads, corrosion, or damage. On the left sleeve of the tunic there is an SS officer’s flat wire eagle.

With this tunic came a set of officer’s grade private tailored riding style trousers. The material remains in excellent condition albeit from some fading to one area.

If you wanted one with veteran providence and unrestored, it doesn’t get any better than this gorgeous SS officer’s tunic and britches listed in this offering. $12,500.00
