Police Officer’s Degen by Krebs – D1178

This listing is for a solid example of a 3rd Reich Police officer’s sword in good condition. Sometimes the grips on these degens were dyed black by the edged weapon firms who manufactured them, while others as with this example by Krebs were period painted. Typical for the later, the eggshell coating was prone to flaking as seen with handle on this hilt. That aside, the wood remains in good condition, devoid of any chips, cracks, or broken segment rungs. Nicely wrapped around the 13 segment grip the decorative silver wire is all in place, fairly snug in the grooves. The silver police style eagle has been expertly set straight and flush to the obverse of this grip. As for the handguard ferrules and pommel, they have taken on a rich dark undisturbed patina over their surfaces. The bottom of the crossguard is nicely stamped with a set of SS runes.

A fine scabbard accompanies this 39″ overall length sword. It remains fairly straight, exhibiting just one surface bump on the reverse, 7″ down from the hanger bracket. As for the factory black enamel, it has held up pretty damn good for one of these shells which quite often were subject to being easily banged around. Both lower and upper nickel-plated fittings are in firmly in place, with the later again stamped with a SS runes culture proof symbol. And for all those experts out there who claim that only SS officer’s degens came with press on lower scabbard fittings, while Police office’s swords only had screws which held this same component, please take note of the lower fitting of this shell, which Krebs firm used often on their police lineup.

A nice matte 33″ blade completes the description of this Krebs police degen. It remains full length, straight, void of any tipping, sharpening, buffing, polishing, cleaning, or cutting-edge chips. The surface project exactly what a collector wants to see with this dull natural appearance these degens were fitted with. On the reverse ricasso is the 2nd version of the crab logo which this edged weapon firm used with their sword production approximately 1937.

Truly a decent degen and SS proofed for the money.  $795.00
