2nd Model Luft by Eickhorn – D1153
Here is a 2nd Model Luftwaffe officer’s dolch, in un-touched condition, all complete, and budget priced for someone out there looking for such dagger. It begins with and excellent Trolon grip which remains in very nice condition, being a little darker on the obverse than that which is shown on the reverse side. The material is in fine condition and void of any cracks, splits, or missing material. Tightly wrapped and all set-in place, the decorative springy wire which Eickhorn was known to utilize is all in excellent condition as shown. Both the crossguard and ferrule and like the scabbard, are just black as all get out! Fairly obvious that nothing has been cleaned nor touched on this edged weapon for the last 90 years. Holding this hilt assembly all firm and in place is the heart shape pommel which this firm was noted for on some of their 2nd model lineup daggers. One of the few edged weapon firms that was known for gilding the swastikas, and that process has held up remarkably good on this component as shown in the photos.
As already mentioned, the scabbard to this 2nd model Luft dagger is about as black as you are apt to encounter on one of these shells. Yet, it remains straight, void of any major dings, hits, splits, or damage. Both bands are in place and hold the hanger rings properly. Lastly, the thicker Eickhorn type throat is in place and held firmly by 2 flush mounted screws.
While the surface of the blade shows stains and dark spots, it remains full length, straight, void of any tipping, buffing, sharpening, or cutting-edge chips. And still has a prominent crossgrain present on both sides. On the reverse is the small, stamped squirrel trademark which the Carl Eickhorn edged weapon firm used for just a short time during their production of these daggers.
Pretty decent dagger for the money. $695.00
