Mid Period M33 SS Dagger by Puma – DR1128

The grip to this Puma M33 is a beautiful example to say the least, and a fine way to start the description to this edged weapon. The handle is as nice as a collector is apt to find on any SS dagger, being void of any chips, flakes, splits, repairs, nor hardly even any pressure marks. The wood retains a fantastic dark color, exhibiting little wear what soever. As a mid period edged weapon, the emblems in the grip are of nickel silver construction. And boy are they ever nice! The upward beak style eagle has been place perfectly flush to the wood, displaying excellent relief features to the bird. The same can be said for the SS runes directly above it. As the emblem display wonderful silvering and enamel throughout, with very little wear or aging. Both upper and lower crossguards are the plated zinc variety as common for this timeframe of manufacture. As typical for this type of hardware the surfaces exhibit some lifting and flaking. All in all, not that bad considering the stunning grip and handle on this Puma mid period SS dagger.

The scabbard to this dagger remains straight, void of any hits, creases, dings, or bends. The original period paint must have either wore thin from the time this edged weapon was carried by it owner, or perhaps some time later. The reason being is that the shell has been repainted at some point in time. While it certainly doesn’t appear recent, it’s difficult to ascertain when it was possibly done. As with the crossguard hardware, the upper and lower fittings on this scabbard exhibit a fair amount of bubbling and lifting to the plating process.

While you may think that up to this point that this edged weapon may presents some challenges, seeing this blade may change your mind. It remains straight, full length, void of any sharpening, tipping, buffing, or cutting edge chips. While it shows a little bit of graying in a couple sections, it’s not all that detracting. This blade still displays an excellent crossgrain to both obverse and reverse sides, as well as an absolute killer dark acid etched Meine Ehre heist Treue motto! Rarely do we encounter such a dark gorgeous burnishing on these SS blades as what you are seeing here with this one. On the reverse is the RZM contract number for the Puma Werke edged weapon firm; 1052/38 SS.

This dagger has a lot going for it, and will make an excellent display for a collector.   $3495.00
