3rd Reich Railroad Eagle by Henschel – G250
This listing is for a beautiful 27” (720mm) rail eagle which was manufactured during the infamous era by the Henschel -Werke casting firm out Kassel Germany. The plaque remains perfectly straight, void of any bends, twist, holes, or breakage. This eagle was removed properly from where is was affixed, as opposed to many which collectors see that have been pried or cut at war’s end. As shown in the photos, the obverse of this eagle displays a wonderful un-cleaned undisturbed muted patina over it’s surface from wingtip to wingtip throughout. On the reverse all 4 period threaded fastening studs remain intact, as this souvenir was captured by removing the hardware which once held it in place. 3 out of 4 of the studs have been drilled in the center at some point in time. It’s unknown if whether it was done during the period or sometime after. No biggie, as having all of the studs present is what it is all about for a collector to display and hang this eagle in their history room. As part of the factory mold, the right wing as viewed has the Henschel initials HE, as well as the chemical compound make up usually seen; GAL Mg Si. This is a nice larger size example which have been associated with actual locomotives during the era, and shown in period photographs on the side of engines. Grab this one, as everything about it is attractive! SOLD
