Weimar Shooting Award Hirschfanger by Horster – D1093

This is a real special edged weapon most likely worn by a member of the St Sebastianus Schutzenbruderschft shooting club, which is indicated by the cross with 2 arrows shown on the clam shell. Both this component as well as the crossguard display gorgeous gilding to the beautiful hilt on this Hirschfanger. The grip is an fine looking section of horn stag which has been expertly trimmed and fit to the tang of the blade, and complete with 3 ornate oak leaves. A fancy acorn pommel and cap hold all of the hilt components snug and tight.

The leather sheath is in good shape, and void of any rips, tears, or seam / stitching issues. Though the lower brass fitting has a little movement due to the small staple that hold these component to the scabbard, it is sill attached and you would just need to be aware of that. No problem with the upper fitting, as it remains tight and firm to the shell.

We finish up with a beautiful triple etched blade. And it’s a beauty! Full length, straight, void of any pitting, tipping, sharpening or cutting edge chips, it’s everything that a collectors loves to see with one of these fantastic etched blade. The plating is truly outrageous, with a gorgeous floral and fauna design acid etched on both sides. On the obverse the design showing a target with the crossed rifles is another connection to a marksman club or shooting association affiliation. On the obverse riccasso is stamped the small Horster trademark which the firm used later during the Weimar era.  What a sweet edged weapon!   $1495.00
