Rare Eagle Pommel HJ Knife by Horster – D1068

For an HJ knife collector, to be able to have a shot at purchasing one of these elusive eagle head youth knives is a dream but to find a Horster is the ultimate.  That’s right, this is one of the rare HJ’s in which the pommel section very closely resembles that which we usually associate with Wehrmacht dress bayonets. That being the more distinct refined shape of an eagle’s head than which is normally seen on your typical Hitler Youth knife. Hence one of the alures for collectors to seek out one of these rare examples.

The beautiful checked grip plates to this knife have been expertly trimmed, and fit with precision super tight to the hilt of this edged weapon. They are in wonderful condition, being void of any breakage, cracks, splits, or missing material. The grip diamond is excellent condition, and firmly centered into the obverse plate section. The period plating is fine on this knife, with most of the typical wear in the location of where the hanger snap secures the knife, and the quillion guard. The reverse shows a bit more wear but check out that eagle head, you almost don’t even notice any of the condition just knowing how rare these eagle heads are to find.

Accompanies this rare Horster is an original early scabboard. It remains straight, void of any bends, creases, splits, or dings. It has been repainted some time ago. At the top of the sheath is the original leather hanger which function fine, and tightly riveted in place. The leather shows a bit of wear and is a bit flimsy. All the components are there and you can tell this scabboard has been with this dagger forever and well loved by its original owner.

Finally the blade, it remains straight, full length, void of any tipping, buffing, or cleaning. It does project a mute uncleaned matte finish with some aging typical of these edged weapon used by their youthful owners with a few nicks to the cutting edge.  On the obverse is the textbook E.F. Horster makers mark seen on these elusive eagle head HJ’s.

These do not come up often, and I highly recommended if you have been in search of one of these rare eagle pommel HJ knives to get it while you can. There are only a few known Horster Eagle Head HJ’s out there! SOLD
