Imperial Forestry Dagger by WKC – D1056
This is an excellent Hirschfanger which was manufactured by WKC during the period leading up to the 3rd Reich era. A beautiful stag horn grip begins the hilt assembly of this fine edged weapon. The antler hndle is in excellent condition, and as shown adorned by 3 acorn emblems on the obverse side. All of the fittings to this hilt are heavy gilded brass which has held up surprisingly well, especially to the hoof crossguard and clam shell components. Everything is nice and solid, and completely tight all the way through.
The scabbard to this edged weapon remains in fine shape. The leather body is straight, void of any rips, breakage, tears, or seam issues. An excellent period black dye remains strong on this sheath, both obverse as well as reverse. The upper and lower stamped brass fittings show some surface age and wear through the years, though not all that detracting. They are held by a single staple on the reverse side.
A beautiful triple edged blade completes the description of this forestry Hirschfanger. It remains full length, straight, void of any sharpening, tipping, buffing, or over cleaning. There are a few cutting edge ticks which honestly are so small, they can’t be viewed in the photos. That small challenge aside is more than made up for by the attractive flora and fauna scenes shown etched on both sides. Tucked up under the clam shell is simply the knight’s head logo, the trademark of the WKC edged weapon firm.
