Early Army Officer’s Dagger by WKC – D923

Try finding an introductory Heer dagger manufactured early on in the period with a slant grip, in the market today. These desirable edged weapons have all but disappeared into collections. The WKC in this offering while not perfect, in my opinion was the best quality of  any manufactures to produce army daggers beginning in1935.

As soon as you hold one of these early WKC slant grip armies in your hand, instantly you feel the heavy weight of the silver fittings which this edged weapon firm was known to use. There is just no mistaking it. But we will get to that shortly. First the handle, and what these slants are all about. A gorgeous striking grip begins the hilt of this early Heer in fine order. It has turned a colorful orange which is a little darker on the obverse than on the reverse. The grip is in perfect condition, void of any splits, cracks, or missing material. The beautifully toned crossguard is WKC’s initial design, has a dark undisturbed patina which has settled over its surface. The refined details of an outstretched  eagle clenching a swastika in its talons have been brought to life with the hand tooling done by a craftsman on this component. At the top the same can be said for the heavy silver 14 leaf pommel. Around the hilt and crossguard is the remainder of the portapee that this dagger was once lace with. Only the cord is all which remains

An excellent scabbard accompanies this dagger. Like the hilt fittings you can just feel the heavier weight to this component, when compared to the other 40 some manufactures of these particular edged weapons. The shell remains fairly straight, exhibiting about a 1 degree slight bow to it’s profile. Over the top of this sheath a beautiful dark patina has settled on the surface. Both scabbard bands are in place, and hold the hanger rings properly. 2 side mounted factory flat head screws secure the throat.

Though the blade to this dagger shows some age, as collectors we’ve all seen much worse. In lieu of that, this blade remains full length, straight, void of sharpening, tipping or cutting edge chips. The surface has some darkened moisture spots as you can see, which are mostly confined to the reverse. Finally on the back side ricasso is etched a knight’s head profile, the company logo of the well known WKC edged weapon firm.

Honestly, not all that bad for an early slant grip Heer, with that un-touched look to it.    SOLD
