SS Stick Pin by Hoffstatter – M439
Worn by an Allgemeine affiliated party member, these SS stick pins designated just that when display on civilian clothes when out of military uniform. These pins are quite desirable, and sought after by 3rd Reich memorabilia collectors. With a host of fakes forever being offered, finding an original example can be quite a challenge. The one in this offering while not perfect, is a pretty decent example as shown in the photos. There is some light surface scratching to the silver SS runes and black enamel obverse, though it’s not all that detracting. The knurled needle is full length and original to this pin. And it comes with the typical keeper sometimes seen with stick pins during the era. As common on many SS items that collectors encounter, the members number on the reverse has been somewhat effaced, and most likely done after the war. This was a practice to distance a soldier from the dreaded SS party of which he once belonged. In spite of that, no list has ever been found to identify these numbers to their owners. In that regard, the half hearted attempt to erase the member’s number from this pin really doesn’t play into the lack of desirability of it in my mind, all that much. It actually makes it rather intriguing. Lastly, the manufacture’s name can be seen also stamped on the reverse; Hoffstatter. We don’t get these all that often. And when we do, rarely do they make the website before being sold. SOLD
