Dress Bayonet with SS Insignia by Baron – D787
This is a typical 3rd Reich dress bayonet which looks to have been sold by a distributor by the name of Baron out of Solingen. The hilt is in decent condition, displaying some light peppering and lifting to the plating. Additionally though not shown in the photos, there is a red felt plug in the rifle attachment slot The grip plates are firm to the hilt, and held solid by 2 dressed rivets. Center between the 2 rivets is an SS runes button which has been installed flush and in a sanitary method to the Bakelite obverse checked plate. The button certainly looks to be period, and very similar to the type of insignia that we see in later period M36 SS chain dagger grips. Who knows how or when it was installed, but no denying the fact that it was accomplished with some precision and skill as shown in the close up. Finishing up this edged weapon is a nice looking blade which is full length, void of any sharpening or pitting, and displaying very decent bright plating. Housing this blade is an excellent scabbard with what appears to be excellent period paint over it’s surface. Around the upper section of the shell is a later frog hanger which has seen it’s better days, as you can tell by the photos. $395.00
