680 Railroad Eagle by Borsig – G206

This is a 27″ inch railroad eagle which was manufactured by the Rheinmetal Borg casting foundry during the 3rd Reich era. As the evidence shows the US vet had just a little bit of a problem on his hands at the time trying to retrieve this war trophy where it was once fastened. Probably with nothing more than his P38 can opener and his M3 fighting knife for tools, he instead broke the fastening studs off of the reverse side as we can see. In doing so the results are other than the studs being sheered off; a small hole in the obverse of the left wing, a little large hole in the right one, and a crack next to it. That’s the way it goes sometimes: “there’s my trophy and I’m taking it home!” In lieu of that the eagle displays a nice patina over it’s surface in it’s uncleaned state. The reverse is marked with the manufactures double circle initials, and the chemical compound symbols. An excellent 680mm rail eagle, to highlight your collection.  SOLD
