3rd Reich Navy Dagger by Eickhorn – D1042

Though 3rd Reich Kriegsmarine dirks seem to be as plentiful as their counterpart Heer daggers are, finding one that has it “all” can be not as easy as one might think. Here is a beauty in this offering.

An excellent off white Trolon over wood grips starts off the description of this Eick navy dagger in fine order. The material remains in wonderful condition, void of any cracks, splits, fractures, or missing material. It remains super tight to the tang of this blade, void of any twisting or movement. Nicely wrapped around the circumference and all in place, is the common seen double strand of decorative copper wire. The crossguard of this hilt is a beauty, and still displays fantastic period gilt to it’s surface. Holding this assembly all tight and aligned is a killer looking eagle pommel. The detail to this component is very recognizable to the astute 3rd Reich edged weapon collector. As it is the replacement pommel we see on 3rd Reich Kriegs daggers produced prior to 1938, which were equip with the flaming ball final prior to this change over. The detail on these replacement pommels is absolutely outrageous, and this one is a honey!

Eickhorn navy daggers are not that often encountered with the extra cost hammered scabbards. But in this case a nice little extra bonus for the collector, without a doubt.  Peened to represent the scales on a fish, the hand enhanced shell of this scabbard is truly remarkable. It remains pretty much straight considering these rather fragile soft copper components, and void of any bends, splits, or creases. Down close to the tip there is one slight depression where something pinched or hit the surface. That aside, the stunning gilt to both obverse and the reverse of this scabbard overshadows that imperfection. You rarely encounter scabbard to navy daggers that are attractive and as beautiful as the example shown with this Eickhorn Kriegs. Finally, both scabbard bands are in place, and hold the hanger rings properly. Two factory screws secure the throat.

As for the blade, it only needs a one word description: STUNNING!
