An attractive handle begins the description of this Holler Kriegs dagger. It is in wonderful condition, being a shade darker on the obverse than shown on the reverse. The Trolon material is in great shape, void of any noticeable damage, cracks, splits, or missing material. As a solid grip throughout, this handle fits beautifully, and remains tight within the fittings. A snug forward-facing eagle pommel securely firms up this hilt throughout. Unique to this manufacture, the decorative grip wire is the springy variety. It is toned dark and firmly set within the turned grooves of handle. Rich toned hardware fittings complete the assembly, adorned and shown with the original reef tied cellon knot laced across the lower crossguard.
An attractive as well as desirable hammered scabbard accompanies this fine-looking Holler Kriegs dagger. It remains straight, save for one thumb depression to the lower obverse. These soft brass shells were very susceptible to all kinds of damage while being worn by their owners, though this one truly has survived amazingly well to say the least. The rest of this scabbard displays in fine condition, devoid of any splits, cracks, major bends, or hits. 2 beautiful hand enhanced oak leaf scabbard bands are firmly in place and hold the thick hanger rings properly. 2 flush side screws secures the throat.
We finish up with the blade. It remains full length, straight, tight within the fittings, while being void of any tipping, sharpening, major pitting, or cutting-edge chips. While there is the typical surface imperfections shown on the ricasso area as a result of where the wooden scabbard runners have rested on this blade, the rest of the plating is absolutely beautiful. Finally, the sailing pirate ship etch adds to allure of these sought after Holler Kriegsmaring daggers.
