3rd Reich Kriegsmarine Dagger by Eickhorn – D992

This listing is for a decent 2nd model navy dirk which was manufactured by the well known edged weapon firm of Carl Eickhorn. The off white Trolon over wood grip is in fine condition, void of any splits, cracks or noticeable missing material. Tightly wrapped around it is the typical double strand copper wire which this firm was known to use on their handles. Both the crossguard and pommel are nicely toned with age, as nothing has been cleaned on this edged weapon since being returned as a souvenir from WWII. Wrapped around the lower pommel and crossguard is a cellon knot in proper reef tie. While the upper portion of the cord is frayed, it is still  in place.

The scabbard to this dagger appears pretty decent, it is straight, as well void of the usually hits and creases that these components usually endure. There is one little depression on the side of the shell,  just below the upper hanger band. That is mainly it. Both sides of the shell are toned dark with a patina which covers the surface of this scabbard. It very much match that which is shown on the hardware of the hilt. Both scabbard bands are in place and hold the hanger rings properly. 2 factory dome head screws secure the throat.

We finish up with an excellent blade to complete this Kriegsmarine dagger. It is straight, void of any tipping, sharpening, buffing, or cutting edge chips. The period plating remains good on this blade, while displaying a little bit of surface age on the tip end. An excellent dark burnished fouled anchor etch is shown in the photos running down both obverse and reverse sides. On the riccasso is the 1935-41 squirrel stamped logo, the trademark of this renown edged weapon firm.

A nice solid Kriegs, with that desirable un-touched look. SOLD
