3rd Reich Hunting Dagger by Eickhorn – D1052

With out a doubt, the high water mark for Hirschfangers produced during the 3rd Reich is the outrageously beautiful Deluxe pattern hunting dagger manufactured by the famous Eickhorn edged weapon firm. In my opinion, it just doesn’t get any better. And the example in this offering is an absolute screamer!

The grip to this fantastic 3rd Reich hunting dagger is a massive chunk of stag horn. All darkened with age of the beast, it is laden with light and dark growth throughout. Pinned in the center of the obverse is the all important 3rd Reich Deutsches Jager association emblem. It is in fine condition being all toned dark with an undisturbed patina over it. The same is true of all the other silver components comprising this hilt. Those including the clam shell, crossguard, pommel cap, and acorn nut, have taken on the most fantastic rich black patina in which the beauty is all but about indescribable. If that is not enough to get you going, take a look at the knot which is original to this dagger. That collectors, is the elusive “professional hunters” portapee. While the collecting community is familiar with the gold, green, and silver knots worn with Hirschfangers carried during the Imperial and 3rd Reich eras, rarely are these professional hunter’s portapees encountered on these ornate edged weapons. Such a stunning addition to a very desirable 3rd Reich hunting dagger in the first place.

As for the scabbard to this sweet edged weapon, it just doesn’t get any better! Take a look at the gorgeous preservation of the green dyed Moroccan leather over this shell. As it is as nice as you are apt to see on one of these Deluxe pattern Eickhorns, or any Hirschfanger for that matter. Void of any rips, tear, or seam issues, this shell remains in fine shape throughout. Like the hilt components, the lower ornate silver fitting has turned almost black with an undisturbed patina which has not been touched. As for the upper fitting, it is shown with approximately 35% of the frosted finish this component once had when it was manufactured. Finally, a fine looking short style frog and hanger clip completes this desirable scabbard assembly.

Lastly the blade. Well, I’ll leave up to your viewing pleasure. As there are no words for me to describe it any further than what you see in the photos.

If you don’t have one of these, or have been looking for one, this gorgeous Eickhorn Deluxe comes with the highest marks possible.    SOLD
