3rd Reich Forestry Dagger Unmarked Holler – D1189

As many collectors may be unaware, encountering a Forestry dagger which was manufactured during the 3rd Reich era is fairly uncommon. Though the blade does not have a trademark, this Hirschfanger was undoubtedly manufactured by the Holler edged weapon firm during the infamous era.

Though as uncommon of an edged weapon this is, when encountered it is typical to see some gilt lifting on the hilt of these Hirschfanger. That aside, the areas of the handguard, clamshell and crossguard have held up quite nicely on this Holler DJ. And that includes the ferrule with the eagle and swastika shown in relief, that being the characteristic attributing this edged weapon to the 3rd Reich production timeframe. Both artificial ivory grip plates have been nicely fitted to the spine, and are solidly in place. Two sets of 3 decorative acorns are present on these grip halves and remain perfectly uniform as well as firmly set in place.

A very nice scabbard accompanies this Nazi era produced forestry dagger. The leather to the shell is in fantastic condition, both being in the proper uniform shape, as well as the preservation of the black dyed hide. The same for the upper and lower stapled brass fittings. Those components beautifully match the bright gilt of the hilt hardware.

We finish up with the triple etched blade. It remains full length, straight, devoid of any tipping, sharpening, buffing, cleaning or any other detracting issues. There is a little bit of surface oxidation which the next owner might choose to delicately clean, though honestly not that much of an issue as shown. The flora and fauna etch has held up nicely on this blade and still retains the burnished areas to highlight the scenery. Though not shown, the felt blade washer is missing and gone to time.

We don’t see these 3rd Reich era produced Hirschfanges all that often. And when we do, they are considerably more than what we have this one listed for.  $2795.00
