3rd Reich Fighting Knife – D993
These edged weapons have been called Luft fighting knives by collectors because most have the stamped eagle Waffenamt on the blade. That aside, I image that they were possibly available to other fighting units as well. The oak grip plates on this one are in good shape, nicely trimmed and tightly riveted to the spine of this hilt. The scabbard is the typical spring clip variety usually associated with these knives. This shell remains in decent shape displaying 80% of the period black enamel over it’s surface. Lastly the blade. It does exhibit surface age, wear, and sharpening, as most of these knives normally when used by their owners. Additionally, the tip is a little bit shorter no doubt due to when it was used to pried and cut during field use by a soldier. In spite of that, where most of these blades are as I mentioned are found stamped with small eagle / 5 Waffenamt, this one has the more rare proof acceptance letter “S” on the riccasso. You don’t see these all that often with this marking. $395.00
