2nd Model Navy with Deluxe Grip by Eickhorn – D697

Though this 3rd Reich Kreigsmarine dirk bears the last Eickhorn trademark used during the infamous era, it is equip with a rare bone deluxe grip. These handles were definitely an extra cost item for the officer, and actually double the price of the edged weapon back in the day for this option. This is a beautiful navy example in this offering.

As mentioned in the introduction, this 3rd Reich navy dagger is equip with an extra cost deluxe grip. While the color is absolutely fantastic with shades of gold, brown, and caramel running throughout, the material remains in perfect condition! This is a very rare color combination to see with one of these handles. And especially one which is void of the typical drying crack usually associated with this bone material. Tightly wrapped around it entirety is a double strand of decorative copper wire all properly in place. The fittings are brass throughout, and still display a fair amount of fire gilt to their surfaces. Wrapped around the hilt and tied in a reef knot hitch, is the portapee which has been on this dagger forever. A gorgeous grip and hilt assembly on this 2nd Model Kreigs dagger.

Though this dagger was carried and worn by it’s owner during the period, the soft brass material that the shell was made out of remains in good condition. It is straight, void of any significant creases or hits, and still retains a solid 75% of it’s factory gilt process. The scabbard bands are tightly sweated in place and hold the hanger rings properly. Lastly, 2 factory dome head screws hold the throat in place. A decent scabbard to this beautiful Eickhorn navy.

Finally the blade. Other than the typical light surface spots in the riccasso area where the wooden runners rested, the blade to this dirk is drop dead gorgeous! Perfectly straight and drawn to a needle point tip, the plating remains absolutely beautiful. And to complement that bright plating is fantastic super dark fouled anchor double sided etch. On the reverse of the riccasso is the smooth tail Eickhorn squirrel logo used in 1942, as the era of edged weapon production came to a close under the Nazi regime. This trademark is not all that often encountered on these last run Kreigsmarine blades. Though the 3rd Reich was all but in shambles, the Eickhorn pride and quality still ran to the very end, as shown by this beautiful blade.

A fantastic last production run of an Eickhorn Kreigsmarine officer’s dagger, with stunning deluxe bone grip. SOLD
