2nd Model Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger by SMF – D987

In my opinion, the dagger being offered in this listing was manufactured by the best company to have made these 2nd models during the 3rd Reich period. That being the SMF edged weapon firm. The grip on the hilt of this dagger is a beauty, being a darker pumpkin orange on both sides. The Trolon material is in good shape, being void of any chips, cracks, or missing material. Neatly in place and tight in the grooves the decorative springy wire that this company primarily used, is shown in the photos. All 3 aluminum hardware components are beautifully burnished in the recesses of the relief features on them, and complement this darker handle in the most striking way. As a very nice bonus the swastikas on both sides of the pommel still retain 80% of their period gold gilt finish to their surfaces.

A beautiful as well as textbook SMF scabbard accompanies this dagger. It remains straight, void of any creases, bends, or hits. An absolutely fantastic airplane gray finish has held up amazingly well on this sheath. Something not always encountered on these 2nd model Luft daggers manufactured 85 years ago. The lighter unique style bands are tight to the shell, and nicely complement the hilt components.

As a nice touch, this manufacture plated the blades on their 2nd model Luft daggers. The blade on this edged weapon is straight, full length, drawn to a needle sharp tip, and void of any sharpening, tipping or cutting edge chips. The surface of the blade does  show some stains and darkening which might be improved by some light cleaning. These plated blade will allow that if a collector so choses to do so, and is careful in doing such. On the reverse riccasso is shown the seated king holding a sword, the company logo for the SMF firm. Above it is a small Waffenamt acceptance eagle stamp.

A good solid 2nd Model Luft, which will display just fine.     SOLD
