2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger by SMF – D1214
In this offering is a solid example of a 2nd model Luft which was manufactured by the Stoker edged weapon firm, a company renown for quality with their fantastic wares. The solid Trolon grip has turned an attractive orange which is a little darker on the obverse than on the reverse. The material remains in excellent condition, devoid of any chips, splits, cracks or missing material. As typical for this manufacture, the handle has been wrapped with a strand of decorative springy wire. That wrap is firmly in place and remains tight into the turned grooves. As for the hardware components consisting of the pommel, ferrule, and crossguard, all have taken on an undisturbed patina over their surfaces. And speaking of crossguard, the reverse of it has been personalized with the Luft officers’ initials “FK”. A nice little added touch to this dagger.
The scabbard to this dagger remains straight, void of any bends, dings, or creases. The surface has actually taken on a gold appearance as a result of the factory lacquer which has yellowed over the last nearly 90 years. Both scabbard bands are firmly in place and hold the hanger rings properly. And as you’ve probably noticed by now, a tired bullion portapee has been un-ceremoniously laced through the upper hanger ring of this scabbard. It’s been there forever. I’ll let the next owner decide its fate.
A nice factory plated blade completes the description of this edged weapon. It remains full length, straight, void of any sharpening, tipping, or cutting-edge chips. While the surface exhibits a couple of extremely minor imperfections, they are not by any means all that detracting. Especially for such an un-touched condition dagger as this example. Finally, the seated king logo, a trademark of excellence with Luft edged weapons in particular, is shown on the reverse of the ricasso. Above it is the Waffenamt eagle stamp. SOLD
