2nd Model Luft Dagger by Eickhorn – D1166
This is a good representation of the 2nd pattern Luftwaffe fliers dolch, which was manufactured by everyone’s favorite edged weapon firm, Carl Eickhorn. A nice-looking light orange squash colored grip begins the description of this edged weapon. The Trolon material has turned a little darker on the obverse than on the reverse side. It remains beautifully preserved, void of any chips, cracks, splits, or missing material. Tightly wrapped around the circumference is the springy decorative wire typically utilized by this manufacture. Both the crossguard and pommel exhibit an attractive rich patina over their surfaces, as nothing has been cleaned on this veteran’s souvenir from WWII. Around the lower section of the grip and over the top of the ferrule, the original portapee that this dagger came with is loosely in place.
An excellent scabbard accompanies this Eickhorn 2nd model Luft dagger. The shell is straight, void of any bends, splits, twists, hits, or dings. The typical convex scabbard bands unique to this manufacturer are securely in place and hold the hanger rings properly. 2 flat head screws secure the thicker style throat the company was known to use on these shells.
Finally, the blade. It remains straight, full length, void of any tipping, sharpening, buffing, cleaning, polishing, or cutting-edge chips. There are some light surface smudges here and there, though nothing all that detracting for the purest wanting an untouched dagger for their collection. On the reverse riccasso is the small, stamped squirrel trademark which the Carl Eickhorn firm used for a short period of time during roughly 1940.
A nice untouched 2nd model Luft example. $850.00
