2nd Model Kriegsmarine Dagger by Eickhorn – D972

This offering is for an absolutely gorgeous navy dagger which was manufactured by the King of Solingen, the Carl Eickhorn edged weapon firm. Have a look.

An excellent grip and hilt start this 3rd Reich navy dirk off in fine order. The off white handle comprised of Trolon over a wood core is as nice as you are apt to encounter on one of these edged weapons. It remains tight to the spine of the blade, and void of any chips, cracks, or damage what soever. Neatly wrapped around the circumference is a double strand of brass wire which is snug and all in place. Look at the detail and gilt to that pommel, as it is truly exceptional. While the obverse is wrapped by the portapee, the reverse side of the crossguard displays some excellent gilt as well. And speaking of knots, a gorgeous toned one is shown frozen in place where is has always been.

The scabbard to this dagger remains nice and straight, void of any splits, bends, creases or dings. As many collectors are aware of, something that is rarely encountered with these softer brass navy shells. The original factory gilt is very nice, rating 90%. There is one wear area where it looks like the owner probably held while steadying this dagger while being worn. Both oak leaf scabbard bands are intact, and hold the hanger rings properly. The throat is secured by 2 untouched dome head screws.

As for the blade, it is a screamer! Forget all that full length, blah, blah, blah, stuff. Just take a look at the photos. A little bit of surface oxidation in the riccasso area which is typical of where the scabbard wood runners have rested, and that’s it. As for the fouled anchor etch, it just doesn’t get any better. On the reverse is the stamped trademark of the firm responsible for this beautiful blade. None other than the squirrel logo of the Carl Eickhorn edged weapon firm.

Truly a beautiful dagger in it’s entirety.    SOLD
