28″ Stunning Railroad Eagle – G226

This has to be one of the attractive railroad eagle that I have ever seen, let alone owned. The entire obverse is encrusted with a dark muted patina, soot, grime, as well as period black paint. Many times when Nazi trains were moving through hostile territories these eagle were camo’d over, or completely blacked out together. That is exactly what you are observing with this example. As you can imagine the glitter of a shinny object like a 720mm eagle on the side of a locomotive provided an inviting target for an allied fighter prowling above. That said, the combination of the original aluminum base with overlying black gives this eagle what I call “the look”! The reverse of the plaque displays a muted flat black coating that this particular firm chose to overlay the surface with. All 3 larger configuration studs have been broken / cut flat, exhibiting roughly the same height on each. The only foundry marks distinguishable on the reverse is the usual chemical compound symbols: Gal-Mg-Si.

This is one SCHWEET railroad eagle, which I really should stash for myself.  Though here it is.    SOLD
