27″ Railroad Eagle by Pinter – G238

In this offering is a fantastic 3rd Reich  rail eagle, an extremely popular item from the era in which collector enthusiast seek to display with their German WWII relics. This example was manufactured by the Pinter casting firm, and is the so called LOK 680. It measures 27” in length (680mm), and 13.5” in height. The exterior display a beautiful undisturbed patina over it’s surface, which has not been cleaned nor polished in any way since being returned home as a souvenir from WWII. In the recessed and around the edge perimeter of the plaque there is evidence of old flat black paint which highlights the wings, feathers, wreath, and eagle’s body. This was likely period done to mask over the eagle on a train traveling through hostile territories, in order to keep the reflection down to the enemy lurking above looking for such a target below. On the reverse and extremely seldom encountered are the 4 threaded mounting lugs still completely intact. In addition and as you’ve no doubt noticed by now, all of those studs retain the original large steel hex nut fasteners on them. Out of all the eagles I’ve owned over the years I’ve only encountered 2-3 examples with the original hardware still present on the reverse of these plaques. 27”, stunning patina, all 4 threaded lugs intact, and all 4 steel hex nuts present…………..it doesn’t get any better!   SOLD
