27″ Railroad Eagle by Pinter – G228

This listing is for a stunning 680cm (27” inch) railroad eagle which was manufactured by the Pinter casting firm. The obverse is void of any polishing or cleaning, displaying a killer undisturbed patina which has remained un-touched for the last 80 years. The surface is smooth under the darkening, and absent of any casting flaws sometimes seen with these plaques. There is a little bit of vaulting to the wings, which most likely happened with the eagle was affixed to the locomotive or coach car to which it cranked down tight on. No biggie, as it kind of gives it a neat appearance to the bird actually. That aside the plaque is void of any holes, crack, breakage, or damage. Typical for this manufacture, the reverse displays a 4 threaded stud attachment configuration. And for a change, not only are all of those structures totally intact, but they also contain the original large steel hex nut hardware fasteners. I can’t stress enough, most of the time these on these eagles the studs are broken or sawn in half, or completely missing all together. It’s incredibly rare to find one of these desirable 3rd Reich plaques with all the studs intact, but about impossible to find one containing all of the hardware as well. Lastly, the makers mark and size which was part of the mold can be observed on left reverse wing which reads: PS LOK 680, AAL-Mg-Si. SOLD
