27″ Railroad Eagle by GPH – G221

This is one beautiful 680mm railroad eagle, with the character that collectors die for. As you can see in the photos, the obverse is encrusted with a grungy undisturbed patina which has remained untouched for over ¾ of a century. Out of over 100 of these that I’ve owned over the years, this one certainly has the look that most enthusiasts seek to find. The eagle is in good condition, save for a 3 degree bend at the right wing tip, and a small ½” crack in that area. Apparently, the vet initially attempted to pry the eagle off of a train where it was mounted. When the large bolt would not give, thankfully he decided to cut them instead. No biggie, as it is part of the history of this fantastic 27” rail eagle. And speaking of history, we have the vet’s name and a little background information about this eagle which will be provided to the next owner of it. On the reverse, all 4 mounting studs have been cut clean and near flush to the machined circular bases. On the left wing is the chemical make up symbols; GAlMgSi. And finally, on the right wing the obscure makers mark in a circle; GPH.      SOLD
