1st Model Luftwaffe Officer’s Dagger & Veteran Service with Discharge Folder – D1100
This listing is for an early all nickel introduction 1st Model Luft dagger. An excellent leather covered wood core grip is in very nice condition on this edged weapon, being void of any rips, tears, major scuffs, or dry rot conditions. It is tightly wrapped with the typical triple strand decorative wire which this edged weapon firm was known to use on their grips. Both the crossguard and pommel are of solid heavy quality nickel silver on these early examples, and because of that no doubt these edged weapons were probably fairly expensive to manufacture back in the day.
An excellent scabbard accompanies this dagger. The shell remains straight, void of any hits, splits, creases, and factory covered with fantastic condition blue dyed Moroccan leather. All 3 nickel fittings are in good shape, and held secure to the shell. While the chain link assembly is all proper, it looks as if the clip has been replaced at some point in time. This edged weapon came from the veteran this way, so it is uncertain if this was a repair done by the original owner during the period, or sometime afterwards. These chain assemblies are the longest hangers that we see utilized on any 3rd Reich edged weapon, and I’m sure were prone to being caught or snagged on objects while being worn. In any event the clip has been replace at some point in time. Additionally this hanger assembly comes with a nice large D ring belt strap.
The blade to this 1st Model is full length, straight, drawn to a needle sharp tip, and void of a any sharpening or pitting. There is one extremely minor cutting edge tick, and a couple of surface imperfection which in my opinion are quite minor. In lieu of that it is a very nice blade overall. The blue leather buffer washer is intact, and no doubt contributing to the preservation of this blade over the years. On the reverse is an excellent dark burnished trademark shown, that of the Paul Weyersberg edged weapon firm.
With this dagger also comes the leather folder and discharge paperwork of the veteran who returned this souvenir home after the war. That being Bronze Star winner Corporal Oscar J Slife
A decent 1st model war souvenir, and information on the soldier who returned it from WWII. SOLD
