12 Year SS Long Service – M404

Only awarded from 1938-42, the SS long service medal 2nd class is quite a rare award in itself for that fact alone. You would have to be an early member within the SS during the “time of struggle from 1925-33” and active military service, in order to qualify for this prestigious award. On top of that, recommendations for it came directly from the Reichsfuhrer himself, with final approval coming down from the Chancellery.

This 12 yr SS long service cross is in excellent and beautiful condition. Die struck from Tombak and silver frosted, the finish has held up amazingly well over the years. At 27g and 1 1/2 x 1 1/2″ inches, these large size medals are impressive looking display to say the least. As shown, the obverse features a ring of oak leaves with SS runes centered within them, all superimposed on a large stationary swastika. While the reverse has the dedication Fur Treue Dienste in Der SS. The integral loop at the top of the award hold the proper ribbon suspension jump ring. Attached to the jump ring is the cornflower ribbon that this award came with. It’s unknown if this is the original ribbon or a replacement. As many times these awards are found and offered without any ribbon what so ever. This 12 year long service is like the example that the Reichsfuhrer himself wore on his 7 place uniform medal bar shown in the Angolia reference. It has all of the textbook fingerprint identifying traits one wants to see with an original period example, and absolutely guaranteed.
